Spring is Here—Let’s Build Some Bees!

It’s official—game on for spring! The Texas weather is warming up, and with no more freezes on the horizon, it’s time to help our colonies grow strong. This means feeding, managing brood production, and staying ahead of the bees’ natural instincts to swarm as they expand.

Right now, we’re feeding a 1:1 sugar syrup with HiveAlive, a supplement that not only makes the syrup more attractive to the bees but also promotes gut health with a blend of seaweed extracts and beneficial ingredients. Healthy gut bacteria mean stronger, more resilient bees—ready to take on the season.

In addition to syrup, we’re providing small portions of HiveAlive pollen patties—no more than half a patty per colony. This gives the bees the protein boost they need to ramp up brood production without overloading them. The goal is steady, controlled growth so we can divide colonies before they get swarmy.

From here on out, it’s all about building up the hives and staying one step ahead of the bees’ natural drive to swarm. By early April, we’ll have mated queens arriving, ready for splits and new colonies. Exciting times ahead!
